October is one of the best months of the year. The weather is finally starting to cool down, leaves are changing colors, and spooky season begins. Halloween is a time to embrace your inner ghoul, to dress up in costume and trick or treat in your neighborhood. A few months ago, our fearless leader Christopher pitched an idea for a community wide Halloween event to take place on the Boggy Creek Trail. After many brainstorming sessions, we at GCI were able to host the first annual Trick or Treat on the Trail. Volunteers from the community came together to run tables set up in the park, passing out candy to all the trick or treaters. This was a multi-generational event for the whole family to trick or treat in a fun and safe space, to make some new friends, meet your neighbors, enjoy Austin Park lands, and explore part of the future EastLink Trail (https://austinparks.org/eastlink/). We distributed over 11,000 pieces of candy from 20 trick or treat tables, 200 toothbrush+toothpaste sets available at the entrance table courtesy of St. David’s Foundation, and over 400 reflective string backpacks/bags from TxDOT. Table drapes were decorated by seniors from Conley-Guerrero Senior Activity Center. Thank you to all of our supporters and volunteers who helped make this event a success!
